Jem Southam research
Born in Bristol in the 1950s. He is renowned for his coloured landscapes Beginning the 1970s and still photographing today. H photographs one area over many months and years one of his famous series is The Painters Pools where he photographed an artist's work station as nature began to grow around it. He does a lot of work around in the south west of England. he uses a large format camera to produce 8x10inch (20.5x25.5cm) prints I think the digital images I have produced link well to his style of photography as he uses dense woods and plants similar to what I have done to my own work which i have taken around Toys Hill and Sheffield Park.
The image above was taken in the autumn time you can tell that from the colours of the leaves on the trees. He uses a tripod to get the best results possible as you can get more detail. I have done similar images to this artist. and can link my work back to him with my images resembling some of his and the way he takes his. The image contains some trees and there leaves are falling off and covering the ground with orange leaves it adds lots of colour to the scene and can add to the effect. The series I am specifically researching is called the painters pool and involves him photographing the same area as it is reclaimed by the nature. He began taking the pictures after the artist became ill and he photographed the easel as nature began to grow around it.
This image is of a more lush forest as the leaves are greener so this might be in spring or summer so there is more plant and tree life this creates a more chaotic image as there is a lot going on also there is many different shades of green going on . This creates a colourful forest scene. it also adds aspects off chaos due to the fact there is not a specific point which your eye is drawn to. but this could also been seen as a peaceful image due to it being a calm nature photo.
